Mold is a common fungus found almost everywhere, indoors and out, at anytime of the year. There are thousands of species of mold in the environment. Some species of mold are safe while others can be very dangerous to our health. Microscopic mold spores grow where there is moisture and oxygen and suitable food source. Mold travels through the air, and it attaches to structures in and around homes and structures. Once mold attaches to a surface, it can cause discoloration and damage to drywall, flooring and other building materials. Since mold is airborne, people are susceptible to inhaling the spores.
